Ms. Melanie Virnelson
Younger 2's Lead Teacher
Ms. Melanie, affectionately known as Ms. Mel, was born and raised in North Carolina. She is married and hopes one day to have children of her own. She enjoys writing song lyrics, Pilates, and spending time with her family and friends. She loves children and has worked in childcare for the past 10 years with all age groups. Ms. Mel has an Associates degree in General Education, diploma in Early Childhood Education, and certification in Administration. Ms. Mel has been a part of My First School for many years and is excited to lead our younger 2's class. She loves to see the smiles upon the children's faces as they grow and learn new things!
Ms. Amanda Sommer
Older 2's Lead Teacher
Ms. Amanda moved to NC in 2000 and met Mr. Mark and Ms. Dee Dee as an afterschooler. She now lives in Lake Park with her husband, Chad, their two little boys, Rowen and Brooks, and their dog, Charlie. She has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology from UNC Charlotte, and co-owns a small business with her best friend. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, crafting, and finding adventure in nature. Ms. Amanda is proud to be a part of the My First School team and is excited to be assisting in the Pre-K!

Ms. Adrienne Smith
Older 2's Teacher Assistant
Ms. Adrienne comes to us from Sumter, SC, where she was born and raised. She majored in Childhood Education at SC State College and earned her credentials back in 1987. Ms. Adrienne began teaching kindergarten through 1st grade and has continued for 25+ years in the education field. Ms. Adrienne has been a preschool assistant and Summer Camp/Afterschool teacher at Ms. Dee Dee’s for over 3 years. In this role, she was an integral part of our remote learning success during the pandemic. She has four children, 2 boys and 2 girls, who are her world! She loves her family, traveling, anime, and most all, the opportunity to teach your babies! :)
